Marking Joseph Boroski’s return to Bangkok, duality.space introduces a refreshing new cocktail concept rooted in Thai beliefs, spirituality, and storytelling

Bangkok’s cocktail scene has never shied away from experimentation, but Joseph Boroski has once again found a way to surprise. Now in soft launch, duality.space is his latest project, and perhaps his most culturally immersive to date. Tucked discreetly inside Ad Lib Bangkok, the bar takes Thai folklore as its central narrative, exploring the dual nature of spirituality: light and darkness, benevolence and hostility, blessing and curse.

duality.space also carries a Thai name, Mai Ya Mok (ๆ), inspired by the Thai language symbol used to repeat a word or phrase. The reference is subtle but deliberate, echoing the idea of repetition, reflection, and dual meaning that underpins the entire concept.

The space itself is calm and contemporary, designed to feel intimate rather than theatrical. Warm lighting, jute handiwork lining the walls, and framed artworks by Thai artist Spider Money set the tone. His reimagined interpretations of Thai spirits, rendered through meticulous stippling and ornamental detail, quietly watch over the room. With seating for just 12 guests, a few spots at the bar, and several more private tables, the experience feels personal. Outside, a handful of tables sit beneath the trees and double as a designated smoking area.

duality.space's setup is intentionally minimal. There is no off-menu ordering here. Everything revolves around a tightly curated menu of nine cocktails, all conceptualized by Joseph Boroski and structured into three chapters, each representing a different spiritual dimension.

The Abundance chapter features Nang Kwak, Mae Phosop, and Nang Tani. Reckoning moves into darker territory with Krahang, Krasue, and Mae Nak. Protection closes the journey with Yak, The Naga, and Kuman Thong. Each drink is technically complex, but always anchored to the character it represents.

At its core, duality.space is less about spectacle and more about narrative. It is a folklore-inspired bar that tells stories of belief and faith through carefully constructed drinks, inviting guests to slow down, listen, and reflect. The atmosphere is comfortable, unforced, and quietly confident.

Nang Tani

Nang Tani, inspired by the banana tree goddess, delivers layered banana flavors through clarified juice of depectinized green banana, banana peel tapache, and 60-day-aged banana bitters. It arrives with a fresh banana leaf as an inedible garnish, grounding the drink in ritual and symbolism rather than decoration alone.

Krasue

Krasue, the infamous spirit who appears as a woman by day and a floating head with entrails by night, is served in a striking dual-tube glass to reflect her shape-shifting nature. Built on pandan gin, the drink separates purple cabbage and yellow pepper mixtures into individual tubes, allowing guests to decide how and when to combine them, turning participation into part of the storytelling.

Nang Kwak

Nang Kwak, the beckoning goddess beloved by shop owners and vendors, is perhaps the most playful expression of contrast. Served warm, the drink blends mango and durian cordial, nitrogen-dissolved coconut fats, spice mix, sea salt, gold powder saturation, and a calibrated acid blend. The result is a warm base crowned with a cold, creamy foam. As you sip, the shifting temperatures mirror the goddess’s famously hot-and-cold temperament, a gentle reminder to stay on her good side.

Across the menu, Joseph Boroski’s signature technical prowess is evident. Custom-made glassware appears throughout, designed specifically for each drink and unlike anything typically seen in Bangkok cocktail bars. Guests can also choose their experience across three alcohol levels: full ABV, low ABV, or no ABV, reinforcing the idea that intention matters as much as intoxication.

Currently in its soft launch phase, some elements of the menu are still being fine-tuned ahead of the official opening. For now, it feels like being let in on a secret, one rooted deeply in Thai cultural memory yet expressed through a thoroughly modern lens.
