A new seasonal drop transforms cultural storytelling into expressive summer pieces inspired by temple murals, tropical flora, and Thailand’s rich visual heritage

There is something about Songkran that resists being reduced to a single image. It is at once reflective and exuberant, rooted in ritual yet undeniably playful. This tension between tradition and movement is what the latest collection from Jim Thompson sets out to explore, not through nostalgia, but through a more fluid, travel-inspired lens.
Rather than leaning into obvious festive motifs, the Jim’s Songkran collection reads like a visual journey across Thailand’s cultural and natural landscapes. It draws from the moment the brand’s founder first arrived in the country and encountered its layered identities, something that continues to shape the label’s design language today.
At the heart of the collection are prints that feel less decorative and more narrative-driven. Woodland Voyage, for instance, reinterprets the Sin Xay folktale through temple mural-inspired graphics, bringing northeastern Thai storytelling into a contemporary wardrobe. Elsewhere, ONSON distills similar influences into a quieter, more minimal expression, suggesting that heritage does not always need to be loud to be felt.

Nature, too, plays a central role, but not in a generic tropical sense. LEELA captures orchids against bamboo backdrops with a certain stillness, while PINEAPPLE and PALM FIELD introduce movement, wind, and light. These are not just botanical references; they evoke the rhythm of Thailand’s landscape during the hottest time of year, when everything feels slightly slowed down yet vividly alive.
There is also a softer, almost whimsical thread running through the T-shirt print series. A “secret garden” unfolds through motifs like LOVEBIRD and GREEN ROSES, blending romance, symbolism, and a touch of fantasy. It is here that the collection feels most personal, less about cultural preservation and more about interpretation.

Fabric choices reinforce this sense of ease. Silk, linen, and lightweight cotton blends dominate, offering breathability without compromising on structure. The silhouettes are straightforward but intentional: flowing maxi dresses, relaxed midi cuts, and tailored yet unfussy pieces for men. Nothing feels overdesigned, which is perhaps the point. In a season defined by heat and water, practicality becomes part of the aesthetic.
For men, the AQUASILK pieces lean into versatility, designed as much for city wear as for beachside escapes. For women, the collection balances softness with structure, allowing traditional motifs to sit comfortably within modern shapes. Accessories and home décor extend the story further, with color palettes drawn from sunlit yellows, warm oranges, and pastel tones that echo the festival’s visual energy.
What makes this collection resonate is not just its reference to Songkran, but its understanding of what the festival represents today. It is no longer confined to temples or water fights. It is a moment of pause, of travel, of reconnection with place and self. By translating these ideas into fabric and form, Jim Thompson moves beyond heritage as a static concept and instead treats it as something living, adaptable, and, above all, wearable.
The Jim’s Songkran collection launches across stores and online from April 2026.
