Marriott International marked World Food Day and World Food Awareness Month 2026 in Thailand this October, with a series of charitable activities that included the provision of more than 11,500 nutritious meals to disadvantaged people in local communities across the kingdom.

Designated by the United Nations, World Food Day falls annually on October 16 with the long-term goal of eradicating global hunger.

In line with the spirit of Serve360, Marriott’s sustainability and social impact platform which is committed to “Doing Good In Every Direction,” the group marks this important occasion with its own World Food Awareness Month activities in destinations around the globe.

In Thailand, Marriott came together with its charitable partners this October to stage a full month of educational hotel sessions and neighborhood lunches.

“Eliminating waste and supporting our communities are key pillars of Marriott's Serve360 commitment.

By joining forces with our outstanding local partners to reuse and upcycle excess food from our restaurants, we are not only providing nutritious meals to the people who need them most; we are also preventing unnecessary waste from entering landfill, which reduces CO2 emissions.

This commitment continues at our hotels and resorts throughout the year, but World Food Awareness Month is a wonderful opportunity to highlight these efforts.

I would like to thank everyone involved, including our associates, charitable partners and Marriott’s Thailand Next Gen Business Council,” says Brad Edman, Regional Vice President – Thailand, Cambodia, Laos & Myanmar.

In Bangkok, Marriott encouraged its associates to adopt responsible practices, including a “No Food Waste Bin Day” which guided its team members to eliminate their personal food waste, along with chef-led training sessions.

Multiple Marriott hotels in the Thai capital also partnered with the Bangkok Community Health Foundation (BCHF) to distribute meals to people in-need. In total, 31 Bangkok-based hotels raised THB 285,000, served over 6,900 meals, and contributed 1,640 volunteer hours throughout October.

In Southern Thailand, Marriott continued its long-standing collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Thailand to stage a series of charitable activities at its properties in Phuket and Khao Lak.

A week-long World Food Day campaign featured expert-led training sessions, where team members were taught how to manage their own consumption, upcycle excess ingredients, and effectively manage culinary waste.

This week-long campaign culminated with World Food Day event, held at Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, where 12 hotels across Phuket come together to prepare 5,000 meal boxes and kitchen utensils to distribute to the community.
