A stylish coastal escape where wellness rituals, seaside fitness, and vibrant dining create a balanced getaway just a few hours from Bangkok

In recent years, wellness travel has evolved beyond quiet retreats and strict routines. At The Standard, Hua Hin, the concept takes on a lighter, more vibrant tone through its Playful Wellness philosophy, inviting travelers to balance self-care with a sense of fun by the sea.
Located along Hua Hin’s classic beachfront, the hotel blends energetic social spaces with thoughtful wellness experiences designed for modern lifestyles. The idea, says Nathalie Cockayne, general manager of The Standard, Hua Hin, is to remove the pressure often associated with wellness.
“Wellness today is everywhere, but much of it has become overly serious, almost intimidating. Not everyone wants a silent retreat or a strict detox program.”
Cockayne explains that the concept grew from observing how modern travelers want to enjoy life while still feeling good the next day.
“We saw an opportunity to reinterpret wellness in a way that feels more human. Our guests still want to have a great cocktail, a long dinner, good music and a bit of fun: they just don’t want to feel wrecked the next morning. It’s that ‘40 is the new 30’ mindset. You’re still social, still curious, still playful but you’re smarter about recovery.”
That philosophy shapes the experience from the moment guests arrive. Instead of rigid programs, the hotel encourages a natural rhythm of movement, relaxation, and social moments.

“For us, playfulness and wellness aren’t opposites at all,” Cockayne says. “Play is energy. Wellness is recovery. You need one to enjoy the other.”
Mornings begin with movement and fresh sea air. Guests can join sunrise yoga sessions facing the ocean or head out for a five-kilometer beach run along the shoreline, embracing Hua Hin’s relaxed coastal atmosphere while reconnecting with body and mind.

Fueling the day is easy at Lido, the hotel’s signature Italian restaurant, where breakfast combines international favorites with health-conscious options that cater to both nutrition-focused travelers and indulgent food lovers.
Recovery and rejuvenation come into focus at The Standard Spa. The signature Be Cool program introduces guests to contrast therapy, beginning with an invigorating ice bath, followed by a sauna session and a return to the cold plunge to stimulate circulation and refresh the nervous system. Personalized treatments such as the Intuition Massage provide deeper relaxation tailored to individual needs.
For those who prefer more active days, the property offers a full schedule of activities including Run Club, Sunrise Yoga, Beach Barre, muay Thai, circuit training, and HIIT sessions. Fitness enthusiasts can also train at the 24-hour gym or the open-air Canopy Gym set beneath the trees.
The approach, however, remains intentionally flexible and designed around choice.
“From the moment you arrive, nothing feels clinical or prescriptive,” Cockayne notes. “By check-out, guests shouldn’t feel like they’ve been on a boot camp. They should feel lighter, better slept, slightly sun-kissed, well fed, and genuinely recharged.”
As evening falls, the mood shifts to relaxed coastal dining at Praça, the hotel’s beachfront bar and restaurant. Overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, guests can enjoy Thai izakaya-style dishes and creative drinks in a setting that blends traditional architecture with contemporary design.
The concept also reflects a belief that wellness does not require strict rules or lifestyle overhauls. “We don’t believe our guests need fixing,” Cockayne says. “Our approach is about enhancement. You’re sleeping well, eating well, moving a little, laughing a lot, and enjoying great food and drinks in a balanced way. It’s less about restriction and more about intelligent indulgence.”
In the end, the philosophy behind Playful Wellness is refreshingly simple.
“Enjoy yourself. Sleep well. Do it all again tomorrow — just be a little smarter about it.”
