Royal Barge Exhibition at ICONSIAM Brings Thailand’s Historic Procession Up Close

See all 52 royal barge models, four principal vessels and a 15-meter Suphannahong replica ahead of the Royal Kathin Ceremony Procession on Friday 6 November 2026

One of Thailand’s most elaborate ceremonial traditions is coming into closer view on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
The Royal Thai Navy and ICONSIAM are presenting “Colors, A Reflection of Creation: The Royal Barge Procession,” a free exhibition currently running until Sunday 8 November 2026 at ICONLUXE, M Floor, ICONSIAM.
Timed ahead of the Royal Kathin Ceremony Procession by royal barge on Friday 6 November 2026, the exhibition provides an introduction to the history, artistry and ceremonial roles behind the vessels that make up the procession.

All 52 Royal Barges in Procession Formation
At the heart of the exhibition is a complete display of models representing all 52 ceremonial barges, arranged according to the formation used in the actual Royal Barge Procession.
Information accompanying the models explains the different types of vessels, their positions and their ceremonial significance, allowing visitors to understand how the individual barges come together to form the larger procession.
Particular attention is given to the four principal royal barges taking part in the 2026 ceremony: Suphannahong Royal Barge, Anantanakkharat Royal Barge,
Anekchatphuchong Royal Barge and Narai Song Suban HM King Rama IX Royal Barge.
Each is distinguished by elaborate craftsmanship and symbolism reflecting Thailand’s royal and artistic heritage.

Suphannahong at Larger Scale
Another centerpiece is a 15-meter replica of the Suphannahong Royal Barge, one of the most recognizable vessels in the royal fleet.
Named for the golden hamsa, or mythical swan, the vessel’s distinctive form provides a striking focal point for an exhibition otherwise built around smaller-scale models. Multimedia presentations, videos and educational displays provide further context on the history and purpose of the Royal Barge Procession, making the exhibition accessible to visitors who may be encountering the tradition for the first time.

A Royal Tradition Shaped by the Chao Phraya
The setting is particularly fitting. The Chao Phraya River has long been central to Bangkok and Thailand’s history, serving as a route for transportation, trade, daily life and royal ceremonies.
By presenting the exhibition beside the river where the procession itself takes place, the Royal Thai Navy and ICONSIAM offer visitors an opportunity to understand the Royal Barge Procession not simply as a spectacle, but as a continuing expression of Thai craftsmanship, cultural identity and river heritage.
For visitors planning to see the Royal Kathin Ceremony Procession on Friday 6 November 2026, the exhibition also provides useful context beforehand, explaining the vessels they will see on the water and the roles they play within the procession.
