Road to Give 2026 turns a nationwide run into a celebration of movement, community and giving back

Running can be many things: a workout, a weekend ritual, a way to clear your head or simply an excuse to spend an hour outdoors. This October, Marriott Bonvoy is adding another reason to lace up: helping local communities.

Road to Give returns to Thailand for its 12th year, bringing a series of charity run and wellness events to seven destinations from 3 October to 5 December 2026. Participants can run, walk and, depending on the event, take part in other forms of movement, with activities planned in Koh Samui, Khao Lak, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Chiang Rai, Hua Hin and Bangkok.

The format is deliberately inclusive. Distances range from a 1.8-kilometer pet run in Phuket and 2-kilometer family-friendly routes to 10- and 12-kilometer challenges for those looking for a more serious workout.

More importantly, the miles have a purpose. Net proceeds after event costs will go to nonprofit organizations supporting underprivileged children and families in Thailand.

A Run That Started With a Bigger Purpose

Road to Give began in 2015 under the fittingly straightforward name Run to Give. It has since evolved into an annual charity and wellness initiative that brings together Marriott associates, hotel guests, partners and local communities.

The idea remains simple: get people moving while raising money for organizations working within the communities where Marriott operates.

It also reflects a broader understanding of wellness that extends beyond individual fitness. Running or walking together creates opportunities to get outdoors, meet people and feel connected to the place around you, while fundraising adds a social purpose to the experience.

For experienced runners, it can be another event for the calendar. For beginners, families and casual walkers, the shorter distances offer a much less intimidating entry point.

Seven Destinations, Seven Ways to Run

The 2026 edition starts in the south on Saturday, 3 October, with a morning run from Koh Samui Stadium. Participants can choose between 2, 6 and 12 kilometers.

One day later, Road to Give moves to Khao Lak, where 5- and 10-kilometer routes at Laem Pakarang bring runners onto the Andaman coast. The event then heads north. On 7 November, Chiang Mai hosts 5- and 10-kilometer runs at the 7th Infantry Division, with the surrounding mountains providing the backdrop.

Phuket follows on 15 November at Bang Wad Dam. Alongside 4- and 12-kilometer distances, this year's event includes something for four-legged runners too: a 1.8-kilometer pet run.

Chiang Rai changes the pace on 28 November with an evening 5-kilometer run along the Kok River. The following morning, Hua Hin offers 3.5-, 5.5- and 10-kilometer distances at Lan Maharaj.

Finally, the nationwide series reaches Bangkok on Saturday, 5 December. The closing event takes place at Suan Rot Fai, one of the capital's most popular green spaces for running and cycling, with 2-, 4- and 10-kilometer routes.

More Fun Run Than Finish-Line Obsession

Despite the distances, Road to Give is not positioned purely as a race.

Each event is designed with a carnival atmosphere, bringing together live entertainment, children's activities, lucky draws and food from Marriott Bonvoy on Wheels, the group's convoy of hotel and resort food trucks and carts. Finishers will also receive medals.

That makes the events particularly approachable for people who like the idea of a community run but have little interest in chasing personal bests.

Walk the short course with the family. Run 10 kilometers. Bring the dog in Phuket. Or simply use the event as motivation to start moving again. The point is participation.

Where the Money Goes

This year's events are expected to raise millions of baht for nonprofit partners working with children and communities around Thailand.

Beneficiaries include Operation Smile Thailand, which provides surgical care for children and young people born with cleft conditions, as well as Asia Center Foundation in Phuket, Tarnnamjai Foundation Thailand and Don Bosco Home for Children Bang Sak in Phang Nga, Mirror Foundation in Chiang Rai and Mercy House Foundation in Pranburi.

Net proceeds after event costs will be donated to the participating charitable organizations.

The initiative forms part of Marriott International's Serve360 social-impact and sustainability platform and its wider focus on community engagement.

Wellness Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Wellness increasingly comes packaged as something elaborate: specialized equipment, expensive memberships, carefully optimized routines and another collection of numbers to monitor.

Road to Give offers a refreshingly uncomplicated alternative. Put on comfortable shoes. Go outside. Run if you can, walk if you prefer. Bring your family, friends or even your dog. Meet people and contribute to something beyond your own fitness goals.

For those looking for motivation to start running, the shorter distances could be particularly useful. There is no need to begin with a marathon when two kilometers can be enough to turn an ordinary Saturday into the start of a new habit.

And if you already run regularly, there are 10- and 12-kilometer routes waiting in some of Thailand's most appealing destinations. Either way, every kilometer goes a little further when there is a reason behind it.
