Bangkok's historic riverside neighborhood of Song Wat is preparing to glow once again as Awakening Song Wat 2026 returns for its second edition, inviting visitors to explore the district through light, storytelling, and contemporary creativity.

Running from 3–12 July 2026, the festival presents the theme "SON(G)EVITY: The Longevity of Song Wat," an artistic reflection on what enables one of Bangkok's oldest communities to remain vibrant across generations.

Part of the broader Awakening festival series, this year's event positions itself as more than an art exhibition. It becomes a conversation about memory, place-making, and the evolving identity of Song Wat, asking visitors to consider what gives a neighborhood resilience, character, and lasting cultural significance.

A Light-Filled Journey Through Song Wat

Awakening Song Wat 2026 will showcase 21 site-specific artworks across 14 locations throughout the district, transforming historic alleys, warehouses, and architectural landmarks into immersive cultural experiences. Venues include familiar Song Wat spaces such as So Heng Tai and Charoen Watthana Warehouse, alongside hidden lanes and heritage buildings waiting to be rediscovered through digital art and illumination.

Through projections, installations, and interactive works, the festival encourages audiences to experience the neighborhood from fresh perspectives while uncovering stories embedded within its streetscape.

Celebrating the Longevity of Song Wat

At the heart of the 2026 edition is the concept of longevity—not merely as physical preservation, but as an enduring spirit sustained by communities, traditions, and collective memory.

The theme "SON(G)EVITY" explores how Song Wat has maintained its distinctive identity despite rapid urban transformation, continuing to inspire new generations while preserving connections to its trading heritage and multicultural roots.

By combining contemporary artistic expression with heritage spaces, the festival creates opportunities for visitors to engage with the district in a way that bridges past and present.

More Than an Art Exhibition

Awakening Song Wat 2026 is organized in collaboration with Made in Song Wat and supported by SangSom, Lepas Thailand, vivo Thailand, Ruang Khao, Grab Thailand, and Visa.

The festival is also part of the wider Awakening initiative, which uses light and digital art as tools for urban storytelling, cultural activation, and the development of Bangkok's nighttime economy. Organizers have confirmed that the next chapter in the series, Awakening Bangkok 2026, will return for its ninth edition in November in the historic Phra Nakhon district.

Awakening Song Wat 2026 takes place from 3–12 July 2026 between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM in Song Wat, Bangkok. Admission is free.
