From the vibrant beachfront of Pattaya to the laid-back coastal charm of Bangsaen, three award-winning hotels are showing how travelers can enjoy Thailand while making more conscious choices for the planet

Thailand has no shortage of reasons to explore its eastern coastline. From Pattaya's lively beach scene and diverse dining experiences to Bangsaen's relaxed seaside atmosphere, the region offers an appealing escape for expats living in Thailand and international visitors looking to experience more of the country's coastal lifestyle.

Now, travelers have another reason to discover these destinations. Three hotels managed by ONYX Hospitality Group – Amari Pattaya, OZO North Pattaya, and Amari Bangsaen – have received prestigious Green Tourism Awards at the Ultimate Thailand Green Tourism Showcase 2026, recognizing their commitment to making sustainable hospitality an integral part of the guest experience.

Presented under the Chonburi Smart Green Tourism initiative by Thailand's Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the awards highlight how hotels can combine memorable stays with responsible tourism practices that benefit the environment, local communities, and the destinations they call home.

A New Way to Experience Thailand's Eastern Coast

For travelers who want more from a hotel stay than just a comfortable room and a beautiful view, sustainability is becoming an increasingly important part of the travel experience.

At Amari Pattaya and OZO North Pattaya, this commitment was recognized in the Creativity & Innovation category, while Amari Bangsaen received the award in the Unique WOW Experience category.

Together, the three awards recognize the hotels' efforts to integrate sustainability into everyday operations, from improving energy and water efficiency and reducing waste to lowering carbon emissions, engaging local communities, and adhering to internationally recognized environmental standards.

Importantly, these initiatives go beyond environmental commitments on paper. They reflect a more thoughtful approach to hospitality, where responsible resource management, meaningful community engagement, and the overall guest experience are considered part of the same journey.

Travel with Purpose: Getting to Know the ONYX for Planet Philosophy

Behind these achievements is ONYX for Planet, ONYX Hospitality Group's sustainability framework, which brings Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the group's hotel operations and long-term business strategy.

Guided by its Sustainably Crafted Hospitality philosophy, ONYX aims to make sustainability part of everyday decision-making across its properties. This includes responsible resource management and procurement, supporting local communities and producers, investing in employee development, and creating guest experiences that encourage a deeper connection with each destination.

For travelers, this approach means that a stay can be about more than simply visiting a place. It can also be an opportunity to appreciate the people, local culture, and natural surroundings that make each destination unique.

"At ONYX Hospitality Group, we believe that meaningful sustainability must create value for both the communities and the environments in which we operate. ONYX for Planet provides a shared framework across our portfolio, while implementation is tailored to the individual context and needs of each destination.

This allows us to deliver tangible benefits for our guests, local communities, and the environment. These three awards are a testament to the dedication of our hotel teams in bringing this philosophy to life through their daily operations and guest services," said Sukmal Mondal, Vice President of Operations, Sustainability and Community Engagement, ONYX Hospitality Group.

She added that measuring the impact of sustainability initiatives is equally important, allowing the group to assess progress, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure that its efforts deliver meaningful, measurable results. Transparency and accountability remain central to this process as the company continues to grow.

Raising the Bar for Sustainable Hotels in Thailand

Beyond individual hotel initiatives, ONYX Hospitality Group is also strengthening its sustainability commitments at the organizational level.

ONYX Hospitality (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has received GSTC Hotel Multi-site Certification, an internationally recognized sustainable tourism standard for hotel operations across multiple properties. The certification was issued by Control Union Singapore Pte. Ltd., a certification body accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

The group has also partnered with CarbonWize to develop an ESG data management system and a greenhouse gas emissions tracking framework. This collaboration aims to improve the systematic collection and monitoring of sustainability data while supporting greater transparency and accountability across its operations.

In another initiative focused on reducing the environmental footprint of hotel operations, ONYX Hospitality Group is working with SP Group to explore opportunities to improve energy efficiency and introduce renewable energy solutions at suitable properties in Thailand.

One example is Amari Don Muang Airport Bangkok, which began implementing SP Group's Cooling-as-a-Service solution in April 2026. The initiative is expected to deliver significant energy savings, including:

  • More than 40% reduction in energy consumption

  • Approximately 900,000 kWh in annual electricity savings

  • An estimated 449 tonnes of carbon emissions avoided annually

These initiatives demonstrate how the group is combining practical action at individual properties with broader corporate sustainability standards and measurable environmental performance.

Making Your Next Thailand Getaway More Meaningful

As sustainable travel continues to shape the future of tourism, ONYX Hospitality Group's approach reflects a growing understanding that great hospitality and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Whether planning a weekend escape to Pattaya, a relaxing coastal break in Bangsaen, or a longer stay along Thailand's Eastern Seaboard, travelers can discover destinations where thoughtful hospitality is increasingly part of the experience.

With ONYX for Planet guiding its sustainability journey, ONYX Hospitality Group remains committed to expanding its presence across the Asia-Pacific region while pursuing responsible growth and creating long-term v

alue for guests, employees, local communities, and the destinations it serves.

For expats calling Thailand home and international travelers seeking a more conscious way to explore the country, these three award-winning hotels offer another reason to experience the charm of Thailand's eastern coast – with a little more consideration for the planet along the way.
