Thailand's Next Generation of Riders Takes the Reins at the 2026 Inter-School Equestrian Championship

A record 157 student riders from 97 schools across Thailand will compete in four disciplines, as Eventing makes its championship debut

While Thailand is widely known for Muay Thai and football, another sport is quietly gaining momentum among the country's youth. This August, the nation's largest school equestrian competition returns with record participation, highlighting the growing popularity of horseback riding and the expanding opportunities available to young athletes.

The 2026 Equestrian Inter-School Championship will take place from 12–16 August at B.Grimm Country Club (Thai Polo & Equestrian Club Pattaya). Organized by the Thailand Equestrian Federation Under the Royal Patronage in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education (DPE), the annual championship provides a platform for school-age riders to sharpen their skills, gain competitive experience, and begin the journey toward representing Thailand on the international stage.

A Record Year for Thai Youth Equestrian Sport

This year's championship welcomes 157 horse-and-rider combinations representing 97 schools across 18 provinces, generating a total of 247 competition entries. The record turnout reflects the steady growth of equestrian sport in Thailand, supported by schools, families, riding clubs, and sporting organizations working together to nurture young talent. Competitors will take part in four disciplines:

• Dressage

• Endurance

• Jumping

• Eventing

The biggest addition this year is Eventing, which joins the championship program for the first time. Often regarded as one of equestrian sport's most demanding disciplines, Eventing combines technical riding, jumping ability, and endurance. Riders will compete in a one-day format featuring an exciting Derby course designed to test both horse and rider.

More Than a Sport

Equestrian sport offers far more than athletic competition. Success depends on trust and communication between horse and rider, teaching young athletes patience, responsibility, discipline, resilience, and sound decision-making.

The experience also introduces students to a broader equestrian world, with potential career pathways in coaching, horse management, veterinary medicine, equine welfare, and sports event management. For many participants, the championship represents the beginning of a lifelong involvement in the industry.

Developing Thailand's Future Champions

For the Thailand Equestrian Federation, the championship is about much more than medals. It serves as a stepping stone for riders with ambitions to compete at national and international levels.

"Every champion begins with a dream and an opportunity. This championship is where many young riders take their first steps towards representing Thailand. It gives young riders the opportunity to discover their potential, develop their skills, and build the confidence to compete at higher levels. We hope to see these young riders proudly represent Thailand at the SEA Games, Asian Games, FEI Asian Championships, and ultimately the Olympic Games," said Dr. Harald Link, President of the Thailand Equestrian Federation Under the Royal Patronage.
